Lebanon's Economic Crisis

Since 1975, Lebanon has faced multiple crises, culminating in the October 2019 Financial Crisis, causing poverty to affect about 75% of the Lebanese population, with 82% living in multidimensional poverty.

Beirut Blast and COVID-19

Following the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the August 4, 2020 blast at the Port of Beirut caused 218 deaths, 7,000 injuries, and $15 billion in property damage, displacing around 300,000 people.

Refugee Crisis

Since 2011, Lebanon has hosted the largest number of refugees per capita, with an estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees and 11,238 refugees of other nationalities.

Israel–Hezbollah Conflict (2023–2024)

A 14-month conflict between Hezbollah and Israel led to at least 3,768 deaths and 15,699 injuries in Lebanon. Damage to housing is estimated at $2.8 billion, with 99,000 housing units affected.

- Over 886,000 people displaced within Lebanon.

- 540,000 people fled to Syria.

- The World Bank estimates $8.5 billion in damages.

- Lebanon's real GDP is projected to contract by 5.7% in 2024.

- Losses in agriculture exceed $1.1 billion.

- Tourism and hospitality losses reach $1.1 billion.

USAID Ceases Operations

Beginning in 2025, USAID has ceased its operations and support to Lebanon.
